Our Daily Bread

Commercial wheat production is a “study in pesticide application.” [1] Wheat seeds are treated with fungicide before they are planted. Once they grow, they are sprayed with hormones and pesticides. Even the storage bins for harvested wheat are coated with insecticides. If some bugs survive and appear on the grains, the stored wheat is fumigated again.

98% percent of wheat eaten in the US is eaten as white flour.[2] That means, the nutrient rich bran and germ of the wheat berries are removed and many vital nutrients from the whole grain are lost in the refining process: [3]

Protein25 percent

Fiber95 percent

Calcium56 percent

Vitamin E95 percent

Zinc76 percent

Phosphorus70 percent

Iron84 percent

Magnesium98 percent

B-Vitamins80 percent

In addition to the loss of nutrients, harmful chemicals are added and created through the process of flour aging. Flour used to be aged naturally to improve its baking quality. Today, the milling industry uses the gas chlorine oxide as an aging and bleaching agent. Once the chlorine oxide interacts with proteins in the flour, alloxan is produced. Alloxan creates diabetic conditions because it destroys the cells that produce insulin.

Wheat does contain gluten. A rising number of people is intolerant or sensitive to this special type of protein. Less sensitivities have been reported from original crop forms of wheat such as einkorn wheat and emmer wheat. Not all foods from the grain family contain gluten. Great alternatives to wheat are wild rice, buckwheat, millet, quinoa and amaranth.

Enjoy organic, unrefined grains ;-)

Why Antidepressants May Not Work For You!

Depression could be more accurately described as un-repaired emotional short-circuiting. It devastates health and relationships and often has a higher negative impact on our body than the toxins and poisons we expose ourselves to in our daily lives.

But why are so many people feeling so low, even though antidepressants are so widely available? 230 million prescriptions for antidepressants are filled in the United States every year. [1]

Research from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine found that:

* "Chronic stress does not cause the same molecular changes that depression does, but most antidepressants are based on the hypothesis that stress causes depression. The hypothesis appears to be incorrect, which means the drugs are virtually worthless."

* "An imbalance in neurotransmitters in your brain may not trigger depressive symptoms as has long been thought. Instead, the biochemical events that lead to depression appear to start in the development and functioning of neurons. This means antidepressants focus on the effect of depression, and completely miss the cause … yet another reason why they are so ineffective for most people." [2]

According to the International Journal Neuropsychopharmacology, some studies found that placebo pills had a better effect then antidepressants. [3] Well, what can you do then?

Exercise and nutrition are directly impacting your brain and emotions. Dr. James S. Gordon found that "exercise is at least as good as antidepressants… it increases your endorphin levels, your “feel good hormones.” [5]

Good nutrition is vital for brain function. Enjoy a whole food diet. Avoid sugar, as it is a depressant. Supplement DHA - the essential fatty acid that makes up most of your brain. Munch on some blueberries and walnuts and include B-Vitamin rich foods such as sprouts and bee pollen. Make sure you have optimal levels of vitamin D. The best way to obtain this "sunshine vitamin" is to have some Outdoor Fun.

Addressing emotional hurt and removing underlying blockages is the most essential strategy for true healing. If our soul suffers and we are so overwhelmed that we can't process an experience - consciously or subconsciously - we shut down. Anxieties and inner restlessness are very widespread today, which are nothing but unconscious, destructive fears. The Andreas Method is very effective in ridding your body of blockages without side effects.

Free Your Soul and Feel the Joy ;-)

Radiation Protection - The Natural Way

Foods and homeopathy offer excellent choices to protect us and rid our bodies from radiation - not just nuclear, but also medical radiation and exposure during long flights.

Natural nuclear radiation protection is especially important for young children or people who have an autonomously functioning thyroid nodule, as the recommended large dose of Potassium Iodine can precipitate a thyroid crisis. [1]

The reason why potassium iodine is recommended in case of a nuclear disaster is because if you are deficient in iodine, the body will suck radiactive iodine into the thyroid gland. The body does not distinguish between regular and radioactive iodine. However, potassium iodine only protects your thyroid for one to three days, and prolonged use of large doses of potassium iodine increases the risk of endocrine imbalances. Plus it does nothing to protect you from detoxifying the radiation.

It is important to take adequate amounts of iodine from safe sources on a regular basis to have adequate iodine stores. This will not only protect you from radioactive iodine but also from environmental toxins that can poison your thyroid gland like fluoride, bromine and chlorine. [2]

Toxin-free sea vegetables such as dulse, kelp and kombu are an ideal way to obtain your iodine and other essential minerals. However, prudence is urged. Dr. Brownstein sent out sea vegetable samples to labs and found that most of them were contaminated with heavy metals and had bromine instead of iodine. Only organic versions that have been screened for radioactivity and heavy metals by an independent third party and passed.

Chlorella, Spirulina and other high-chlorophyll foods are essential in ridding the body of any radiation. According to Brian Clement, PhD from the Hippocrates Health Institute, Chlorella is the most effective as it has a mineral complex that magnetizes toxins and acts as a sponge to soak them up. Russian research scientists confirmed, that the combination of chlorella and chlorophyll proved to be highly effective to rid victims of the Chernobyl disaster from radioactivity. [3]

Scientific studies have shown that homeopathy is effective for detoxing from all kinds of radiation, including radiation exposure from long flights and medical procedures. [4,5,6] Homeopathic Remedies are safe for all ages, cost-effective and - if stored correctly - do not expire.

A nuclear protection protocol to have on hand is a trio of homeopathic remedies: Kali Iodatum 6c (which is Potassium Iodine), Radium Bromatum 200c and X-Ray 200c.

I offer the Nuclear Radiation Protection Package for $ 29.95 (including sales tax). Remedies are also available individually.

To order just email me at jeannette@andreasmethod.com or call 310-801-4288, and I will deliver/send it to you.

You can also take one does of the homeopathic X-Ray remedy before you fly or are in need of a CAT scan or X-Ray to protect the body.

Good Mood Food

Yes - it is true: Love goes through the stomach. Throughout history, foods such as chocolate, honey, and figs have all been said to ignite and sustain passion, energy, and love.

Foods high in Tryptophan act as natural mood enhancers, as the essential amino acid is converted by the body into serotonin. Good sources are bananas, asparagus, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, walnuts, almonds, spirulina, oats, mung beans, spinach, and kale.

Bee Pollen is an incredible power house of essential nutrients, and is also very high in Lecithin, which influences concentration, memory, and mood.

Garlic is rich in selenium - an essential trace mineral associated with good mood.

Drinking enough clean water is essential to feel happy, since about 85% of brain tissue is composed of water and there is direct link between dehydration and depression.

Don't Sweat the Small Stuff - but Sweat!

Once a few man, who were of old age but youthful in their health, gathered to find out their secret to longevity. They compared their diets, exercise regimes, natural medicines and special ways of life. There was only one element they all had in common: breaking into a sweat every day! [1]

Sweating is a natural process by which the body cleanses itself of toxins. Our ancestors sweated by working hard and being in temperature extremes. You can use exercise, sweat lodges, saunas and steam baths. Or just move around a bit faster while cleaning your home or enjoying a beautiful hike.

Some people have a tendency to sweat excessively throughout the day without being active. In this case it is advisable to correct the underlying condition instead of masking the symptom with antiperspirants.

Antiperspirants work by clogging, closing or blocking the pores that release sweat under your arms - with the active ingredient being aluminum. Not only does this block a route for detoxification, but it raises concerns about where these heavy metals are going once you roll them (or spray them) on.

Aluminum is widely recognized as a neurotoxin and has been clearly linked to Alzheimer's disease and cancer, especially breast cancer. Today the majority of breast cancers occurs in the part of the breast that is the closest to the armpit .[2]

Deodorants work by neutralizing the smell of your sweat and by antiseptic action against bacteria, but do not prevent sweating. Many deodorants also contain aluminum as well as parabens, which have also been linked to breast cancer.

Crystal' deodorant stones are a popular natural deodorant alternative often used by health-conscious shoppers. Crystal' deodorant stones are made of alum, the most common form being potassium alum (potassium aluminum sulfate). Even though some claim the molecules are too large to be absorbed by the skin, it is still a form of aluminum.

Simply use soap and water. If you find you need a more aggressive approach, try a pinch of backing soda mixed into water as an effective all-day deodorant. To create a special personal scent, add essential oils such as patchouli, lavender, cedar wood or mint.

Support Your Body's Natural Ability to Detox ;-)

Sweet Deception - The Bitter Truth

Today - sugar is loaded into soft drinks, fruit juices, sports drinks and hidden in almost all processed foods. Now even most infant formulas contain sugar equivalent of one can of Coca Cola! [1]

The more refined sugar you eat, the more you will crave it! According to a research study from the University Bordeaux (France), refined sugar is far more addictive than cocaine.

An astonishing 94 percent of rats who were allowed to choose mutually-exclusively between sugar water and cocaine (one of the most addictive and harmful substances currently known) - choose sugar.

Even rats who were addicted to cocaine quickly switched their preference to sugar, once it was offered as a choice. [2]

High Fructose Corn Syrup, also called Corn Sugar, has been added to almost all processed foods and poses an even greater metabolic risk for your health than refined white table sugar.

Many people in search of a healthy sweetener choose Agave Nectar. Even if it is labeled raw, the Agave Nectar sold in the US is very processed, and it effects the liver metabolism in the same way as High Fructose Corn Syrup due to it’s extremely high fructose content - especially the light colored varieties.

Artificial Sweeteners such as Aspartame, Splenda and Equal, which are often promoted as healthier alternatives than sugar due to their low caloric content, are clearly linked to Alzheimer's and Depression. [3]

If you need to add some extra sweetness, opt for raw honey (sparingly) or the herb stevia. Or just use the natural sweetness of fresh berries.

"Dr. Weston-Price, who in 1935 studied isolated populations on native diets, was continually struck by the contrast of native sturdiness and good health with the degeneration found in the local white population living off the 'displacing foods of modern commerce' such as refined sugar, white flour, white rice and canned foods.

Once these isolated populations began to include refined carbohydrates, they started to experience obesity, heart disease and diabetes. Their off spring showed physical degeneration: either thin or overweight, narrow faces and crooked teeth." [4]

Other health consequences such as suppression of the immune system, free radical tissue damage, hyperactivity, liver and kidney diseases have been shown to have a direct link to the consumption of refined carbohydrates.

Enjoy Unrefined, Whole Foods ;-)

Is Organic Produce really worth the extra pennies?

Recent studies published in peer-reviewed journals have shown organic foods to have higher nutritional value. Many tests have been conducted, which compare the nutrient content of organic and conventional food grown on similar soils in the same region. The results show nutritional superiority of organic produce. [1]

Furthermore, the list of allowed pesticides in organic farming is highly restricted: only the least toxic controls, primarily derived from natural ingredients, are included.

Conventionally grown food is often tainted with harmful chemical residues. Pesticides can have many negative influences on health, including neurotoxicity, disruption of the endocrine system, carcinogenicity and immune system suppression. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers 60 percent of herbicides, 90 percent of fungicides and 30 percent of insecticides to be carcinogenic.

According to a new study by Harvard University, children with above-average pesticide exposures are twice as likely to have ADHD. [2]

The PLU-label used at stores helps you select organic fruits and vegetables: Organic produce is labeled with a 5-digit number beginning with number 9. Conventional produce has a four-digit number beginning with a 3 or 4. Genetically engineered produce has a five-digit number beginning with an 8.

Many people are not eating organic vegetables because they are sometimes either too expensive or too difficult to obtain. If you must buy conventional produce, there are ways to reduce your pesticide exposure.

Since 1995, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) has taken USDA and FDA test data in order to identify which conventionally produced fruits and vegetables are most contaminated with pesticides as well as those who are consistently clean.

An analysis by the EWG estimated that consumers could reduce their exposure to pesticides by almost 90 percent merely by avoiding foods on their "Dirty Dozen" list. [3]

The current EWG Shopping Guide lists Celery, Peaches, Strawberries, Apples, Blueberries, Nectarines, Bell Peppers, Spinach, Kale, Cherries, Potatoes and Grapes as the most contaminated. In case you can't find organic, safer alternatives are avocados, onions, mangos, eggplant, broccoli and asparagus.

Growing your own produce is another great alternative. All you really need is a dollop of land (or several containers), some healthy soil, and the desire to do it. Even if you live in an apartment you can have your own little herb garden in the kitchen (such as basil and parsley growing in pots). Plus, it will be a great experience for your children. In addition to learning where food comes from, children love to eat what they harvest.

Put your "Green Thumb" to use ;-)

Are you 'allergic' to microwaves?

A recent study by Dr. Magda Havas of Trent University examined the effects of 2.4 GHz radiation on the heart:

"This is the first study that documents immediate and dramatic changes in both heart rate and heart rate variability caused by an approved device that generates microwaves at levels well below (0.3 percent) federal guidelines in both Canada and the United States." [1]

2.4 GHz is the frequency of radiation, which is emitted by Wifi routers and microwave ovens. There is also evidence that this same frequency of radiation causes blood sugar levels to spike in some people. This phenomena has been called Type 3 Diabetes.

If you or a loved one has diabetes or blood sugar instabilities, you might be interested in watching this video.

Using microwave ovens has, in addition to radiation as well as greatly diminishing the nutritional value of your food, other health ramifications: Research has shown, that microwaved food increases cholesterol in the body (even if there is no cholesterol in the food to begin with), and decreases white and red blood cells. [2]

Taking a step back from some of these technological advancements might be one of the most healthful things you can do today.

Choosing corded phones and wired technology when ever possible as well as using the speaker on your cell phone (not bluetooth) are easy to implement solutions that cut down the daily exposure to harmful radiation tremendously.

And there is a great way to alleviate stress due to excessive static vibration that builds up in the body because of modern lifestyle: Connect to the Earth!

Simply put your bare feet on a lawn or any other little area of real dirt that you can find for at least 10 minutes every day allowing the excess charge in your body to discharge. If you do this in the evening, you might find yourself sleeping much better, too.

Touch the Earth Every Day ;-)

Pass This Simple Fitness Test - and Live Longer

Can you sit on the floor and get up without support?

This ability - to rise from the floor using just one hand, or better - no hand, is a better indicator of how long you will live then age, gender, and even weight.

According to the European Journal of Cardiovascular Prevention, Researchers in Rio de Janeiro asked 50 to 80 year olds to sit and then to rise from the floor, using minimal support. [1]

After 10 years, participants who needed additional support to get up from the floor were overwhelmingly more likely to die - across age, gender, or body mass index. Adults who needed to use a number of aids such as their hands and knees were six times more likely to die than those who didn't

If getting up without assistance is something you can’t easily and effortlessly do right now, know that your body can relearn your god-given right to be able to do this. The Andreas Method uses personalized corrective exercises and bioenergetic release.

Ever wonder why kids don’t have a problem with getting off the floor quickly? They are constantly moving. Our natural design is to stand and move. Unfortunately the way we live creates postural misalignments due to prolonged sitting, injuries, repetitive stress, dominant sport, and un-comfortable/poorly adjusted seats. Sitting has now even been coined the new smoking. [2]

A compromised posture decreases mobility and flexibility. Over time, the body further compensates the structural imbalances to avoid pain, and because our brain needs our eyes to be level with the horizon in order to maintain balance and equilibrium (righting reflex).

The energy the body spends to compensate for large structural misalignment is tremendous. Benefits from postural realignment are pain relief, more energy, better sleep patterns, slower resting heart rate, and daily activities are much more fun. Using corrective exercises before engaging in intense fitness or yoga practice is also highly recommended to prevent injuries.

The Andreas Method uses bioenergetic release, as well as personalized corrective exercises based on a patented software program to assist your body in regaining good posture.

Enjoy Mobility - Live Longer ;-)
